# Custom domains

Learn how to connect a custom domain to your service

Public HTTP services have a free `sliplane.app` subdomain. You can add a custom domain with automatic SSL/HTTPS.

## Connecting a custom domain

Your service must be deployed and reachable on its `sliplane.app` subdomain. You also need access to your domain's DNS settings.

Open the service’s **Domains** tab, click **Add Domain**, enter the full domain (such as `www.example.com`), and click **Add**.

Sliplane shows the required DNS values. Use one of the record types below; CNAME is recommended where supported.

### CNAME records

Point `www` (for `www.example.com`) or `@` (for `example.com`) to your `xyz.sliplane.app` subdomain.

Some DNS providers do not support CNAME at the root domain. Use ANAME/ALIAS or A and AAAA records instead.

### ANAME/ALIAS records

If your provider supports ANAME or ALIAS, point the root domain or subdomain to `xyz.sliplane.app`.

### A and AAAA records

Use the IP addresses shown in Sliplane’s domain DNS settings. Create an A record for IPv4 and an AAAA record for IPv6, both using your subdomain or `@` as the host.

## Wildcard domains

Wildcard domains such as `*.example.com` are free and automated after initial setup. [Contact us](mailto\:support@sliplane.io?subject=Wildcard%20Domain) with your domain and use case to enable one.
